GWR / BR 4575 / 55xx Prairie TankFollowing on from the very popular Dapol / Lionheart 45xx at Kettering show Dapol announced the production of the 4575 / 55xx series Small Prairie. They were designed as small mixed traffic branch locomotives, mainly used on branch lines. They were a development of Churchward's 4500 Class with larger side tanks and increased water capacity.100 were built between 1927-1929 at the GWR Swindon Works and were numbered 4575-4599 and 5500-5574. Fifteen locomotives were fitted with auto apparatus in 1953 to enable them to run push-pull trains on South Wales lines with auto trailers. They are often referred to as Small Prairie Class tank locomotives. A total of Eleven members of the class have made it into preservation. These images are the very first test sample images released by Dapol and are for illustration only. At this stage we have not been given any indication as to release date but we would imagine it will be 2024. We are taking advance orders for these now for despatch as soon as they become available. I have also asked for some further clarification on some of the versions. I could guess what the differences are have asked for confirmation from Dapol. These models will have an identical specification as the previous Lionheart versions and will feature:
