Gaugemaster Class 09 Ready to Run Locomotive

Gaugemaster have commissioned the production of the Class 09 by Dapol and these should hopefully become available before the end of the year. The RRP has not yet be finalised but is expected to be in the region of the cost of the Class 08. I would expect it to be a bit moe than the 08 given the usual Gaugemaster Limited Edition locomotive costs in the past. We have had the decoarated test sample images for all five models. 09022 in BR blue will be factory heavily weathered but at this stage we have only seen images of it without the weathering applied.

We are taking advance orders for these now for despatch as and when the become available.

The British Rail Class 09 is a class of 0-6-0 diesel locomotive designed primarily for shunting and also short-distance freight trips along branch lines. The 26 locos are similar to the Class 08 shunting locomotives but have different gearing, giving a top speed of 27.5 mph at the expense of a lower tractive effort.

They were introduced from 1959 to 1962 and latterly operated in the Southern Region of British Railways, although some of the class were originally allocated to depots in the Midlands and North before transferring south. Further locomotives were converted from Class 08 in 1992 and, following this and privatisation in 1997, the class has been distributed much further afield.

CLASS 09 DIESEL SHUNTER

A 5 pole motor allied to a flywheel and a DCC interface makes this DCC sound compatible locomotive a ‘must have’ for those starting out in O gauge or simply like little shunting locomotives. The Class 08 also features sprung buffers, sprung coupling hook and 3 link chain, internally painted cab detail, and directional lighting correct for the livery depicted.

The Dapol O gauge Class 08 will have the following features:

  • Sprung metal buffers
  • Die cast Running plate for extra quality and weight
  • Independently controlled running and cab lights
  • Sprung metal coupling hook and screw coupling
  • Etched plates where applicable
  • Finely moulded body with many separately added fine details
  • DCC ready with a 21 pin socket
  • DCC and sound fitted models available
  • Cast profiled wheels with fine relief and appropriate colouring
  • Heavy diecast chassis and all wheel pick up
  • Powerful 5 pole skew wound motor with refined slow running control

The production model of 09022 as shown above will be factory heavy weathered
