The first batch of Dapol Private Owner wagons have proved incredibly popular and represent superb value for money. Following the success of these Tower Models has commissioned a series of Special Edition wagons to be released with only 100 of each being produced.

Most of these have now sold out but there are still plenty of Tower Models Limited Edition wagon in the regional coal series and the series of ICI private owner wagons

In the early days of the railways most freight wagons were open wagons and were used to carry all types of goods. If the load was more delicate it was often protected by taurpaulin sheets. These wagons got progressively larger as locomotives became more powerful and demand for rail freight increased. In 1923 the RCH laid down standards and specifications for open wagons and 5 plank wagons with a capacity of 10 tons became the standard general goods wagon and many thousand of these were built. Both 7 and 8 plank wagons were generally manufactured for transporting coal and coke and produced in vast numbers. All of these wagons were used well into the 1960's
