Lionheart Ready to Run Wagons

Lionheart produce superb quality ready-to-run wagons, fully finished and complete with opening doors, metal wheels, sprung couplings and sprung buffers. We have commisioned Lionheart to produce exclusively for Tower Models a range of 8 plank side and end door wagons in a selection of liveries. Only 100 of each livery have been produced and stocks are running low already. We have already sold out of the Boston Deep Sea Fisheries wagon.

In the early days of the railways most freight wagons were open wagons and were used to carry all types of goods. If the load was more delicate it was often protected by taurpaulin sheets. These wagons got progressively larger as locomotives became more powerful and demand for rail freight increased.

In 1923 the RCH laid down standards and specifications for open wagons and 5 plank wagons with a capacity of 10 tons became the standard general goods wagon and many thousand of these were built. Both 7 and 8 plank wagons were generally manufactured for transporting coal and coke and produced in vast numbers. All of these wagons were used well into the 1960's

The model represents the RCH 1923 8-plank body design with side and end doors. The door on one side is a separate part and can be repositioned in the open position to simulate being unloaded in the yard. All our models are built to a ratio of 1:43.5, 7mm scale and fitted with finescale wheels for '0' gauge track.

The body is made of ABS plastic incorporating fine detailing and fully finished in 1930's, 1940's and 1950's decorations.

The chassis contains a die-cast metal floor to add weight, a compensating beam on one side to improve running performance, brass bearings, die-cast wheels with steel tyres, sprung metal buffers, sprung die-cast hook and metal coupling links.

Solebars, axleboxes and brake gear components are moulded in ABS plastic for strength.
