History

The Jinty was introduced by Sir Henry Fowler in 1924. The Jinty can trace it's history back to 1874 when Johnson introduced his designs for the Midland Railway Co.

A total of 422 Jintys were built between 1924 and 1931. The first batch were built by the Vulcan Foundry with subsequent batches being made by North British Loco Co, Hunslet, Bagnall, Beardmore and finally Horwich Works.

Built to a basic design there were on a few minor differences between class members. Jintys were versatile being used for shunting, pick up goods and locomotive passenger trains. On the Lickey incline three jintys used to bank even the heaviest of trains.

The introduction of diesels lead to the steady withdrawal of the class, the last Jinty being withdrawn in 1967. A total of ten of this class of locomotive have been preserved.

The Model

Our model of the Jinty depicts the "Keyhole" version of the prototype. So called because of the hole visible in both sidetanks to allow access to the sandboxes. This type of Jinty was by far the most nemerous.

It is supplied fully assembled and completely ready-to-run in unpainted brass. The model includes a canon flywheel fitted motor, sprung buffers, couplings and a compensated chassis.

There will also be an option of having the model supplied fully finished in our own paintshops. The choice of liveries, to quote Henry Ford, is "any colour you like as long as it is black.". We will offer L.M.S., early B.R. or late B.R. liveries. Fully painted and lettered version an extra £185.00. Weathered models costing an additional £25.00 on top of the painting fee. This is a limited run locomotive of only 150 pieces and we are down to the last handful now.

The Jinty is now available and we are also undertaking commisions to finish the model as per the sample images of the painted models shown here.
