As a starter in 'O' gauge there is basically two routes to look at to get started but remember this is only an introduction as everyone's requirements are different as is the space they have to work with.

Set Track Option

Two Boxes of Peco set track curves and a box of set track straights giving you an oval 10'7" by 6'9" (323.7 cms x 205.6cm)

If required there is also the Peco PL80 power feed available at an additional £7.10

Flexi Track Option

One box of 12 yard lengths of Peco flexible track, two points (either Left Hand, Right Hand or Y points) and two packs of metal rail joiners.

If required there is also the Peco PL80 power feed available at an additional £7.50

Limited On Space?

You may of always thought you do not have the space required for 'O' gauge but have you ever considered an end-to-end layout rather than a circuit.

Above is a diagram of Chisel Exchange layout that has been seen at several exhibitions and shows just what can be achieved in a limited space yet still has lots of operational interest and plenty of room for intensive modelling and scenery for a great overall appearance.

Many newcomers to 'O' gauge will be moving up from smaller scales, in which case they may still have the controllers they used for the smaller gauges. If the newcomer is going to be buying Ixion or Dapol locomotives then an exsisting transformer giving out 12 volts at 1 amp will be sufficient. However, if the newcomer wishes to buy Heljan locomotives then it will be necessary to buy a 5amp unit such as the Helmsman 5 amp controller as Heljan locomotives require 3.5 to 4 amps.
