As can be seen from the photographs it will suit Castles in the number series
5013 to 5079. Supplied as separate pieces will be a tall chimney (5013-5041),
a short chimney (fitted 1936 onwards) and a double chimney as fitted to some locomotives
from 1956 onwards. Two patterns of steam pipes, two types of box housing covers
and superheater lubricator covers will also be supplied as separates. Also supplied
will be two types of steam chest (round and square) and the chequer plates as
fitted later in life. Parallel and tapered buffers will be supplied.
The finished model features a factory painted black chassis with a brass
body. The customer can then fit the required optional parts using either solder
or glue prior to painting. Our popular painting service is as always available
to complete the Castles to customers requirements.

We produced just 100 Castles with Collett tenders and 50 Castles with Hawksworth tenders and are now down to the last handful of the Collett tendered version and have completely sold out of the Hawksworth tender version. Once these last few Collett tender versions have gone we cannot replace them so are now only prepared to sell the last few fully finished rather than selling them brass with factory painted chassis. Details of the fully finished castles can be found under both the painting and lining section and also the fully finished available off the shelf. These last few we can complete to the customer's requirements with their choice of number, livery and condition
TOWER BRASS GWR / BR CASTLE
VARIATIONS.
To aid customers with their Castle shown here are four
different views showing just some of the options available with this
new locomotive.
Supplied, but not fitted, are three chimneys, original
tall single, later short single chimney and final double chimney as
fitted to some members of the class.
Alternate two, three and four row superheater covers
are supplied along with the lubricator cover for the left hand side
of the smokebox. A mechanical lubricator is also supplied and can be
fitted in various positions on the right hand side of the footplate.
The two stages of chequer plate are supplied. The original
is a single strip that just squared off the steam chest. There is also
the later stage chequer plate for later BR versions.
Finally both tapered and parallel buffers are supplied.
The potential options available with these parts allows the locomotive
to be depicted at any stage in its life.
The above image shows the Castle as built (prior to
1936) with original tall chimney, original steam pipes, two row superheater
boiler cover fitted on the right hand side and lubricator cover fitted
to the left hand side of the smokebox. Also featured are the original
tapered buffers.
The above image shows the Castle as built (post 1936)
as later fitted with short chimney. The locomotive still features
original steam pipes, two row superheater boiler cover fitted on the
right hand side and lubricator cover fitted to the left hand side
of the smokebox. Also featured are the original tapered buffers.
The above image shows the Castle in early BR condition
with short chimney, later pattern steam pipes, four row super heater
cover on the right hand side and mechanical lubricator fitted to the
footplate. Originally these mechanical lubricators were fitted behind
the steam pipes but this was later changed to in front of the steam
pipes for ease of access with some locomotives. Once the mechanical
lubricators were fitted the lubricator cover on the left hand side
of the boiler is no longer featured. Also featured is the first stage
chequer plate fitted above the steam chest. The locomotive still features
the original tapered buffers.
The above image shows the final late BR condition (though
not all of the locomotives had these alterations). Here you can see
it features the double chimney, later steam pipes, four row superheater
cover on the right hand side, mechanical lubricator on the footplate
and built up chequer plate above the steam chest. Here the later style
parallel buffers have been fitted at this stage of the locomotives career.
Above are brand new images of the Hawksworth tender
that will also be produce after the Collett tender version. For the majority of their days
the Castles were issued with Collett tenders but toward the end of their
working lives some were issued with Hawksworth tenders.
Earl Bathurst is a perfect example of this, as preserved
it now has a Hawksworth tender whereas for the majority of it's working
career it was issued with a Collett tender and only in the last two
years of service was it issued with a Hawksworth tender.
